Swimming for Year 5
All primary schools must provide swimming and water safety lessons in either Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2. Each pupil is required to be able to perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations, swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, and use a range of strokes effectively.
As part of the PE Curriculum at Trinity, we will be taking the Year 5 children swimming at Henley Leisure Centre on the following Tuesdays: 29th April, 6th, 13th and 20th May
There is no cost to parents for these swimming lessons.
All children will be assessed on their swimming ability in the first lesson - it would be very helpful for us to know in advance if your child is a non-swimmer and/or a very nervous swimmer. All ability levels will be accommodated. Boys and girls will swim as separate groups.
Children in Group 1 will leave Trinity promptly at 09:50 to walk to Henley Leisure Centre. Children in Group 2 will leave Trinity promptly at 10:30. Children will return to school in time for lunch.
Consent
We must have your consent for your child to be able to participate in the swimming lessons, so please complete the Google form via this link by Friday 4th April at the latest: https://forms.gle/Vfvv6JtXrb5x8gTN8
Parent Volunteers
We do need help to walk the children to and/or from Gillotts Leisure Centre, so please tick the box on the form if you are able to help. Miss Kirton will then be in touch with you directly via email to discuss timings. Ideally you would stay and walk the children back, but please still volunteer even if you can only walk them one way.
Swimming Kit
Children should bring a named swimming bag with appropriate swimwear, a swimming hat, goggles if they prefer and a large towel. A healthy, nut-free snack can also be brought. If children need armbands, these will be provided by Gillotts Leisure Centre.
Long hair must be tied back and all children must wear a swimming hat. Jewellery, including earrings, anklets and necklaces should be removed at home before coming to school. Boys must wear swimming trunks because loose fitting trunks can be dangerous and hinder a child’s swimming ability. For medical reasons only (e.g eczema) children are allowed to wear t-shirts. These should be of a light material.
Children will not be allowed to swim if they are not wearing sensible swimming trunks or full swimsuits (no bikinis), if they are not wearing a swimming hat or if they are wearing any jewellery which cannot be removed before the lesson.
The swimming lessons are an excellent opportunity for your child to learn / develop this important life skill and we hope that they will enjoy the experience.
Doodle Maths (Year 6)
Following on from Miss Newman's email, please can we remind parents that children should ideally be doing Doodle Maths assignments for 10-15 minutes per day. If you have any queries, please email your child's teacher.
