Design Technology
Intent
Design Technology (DT) gives pupils the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding of designing and making functional products. It develops pupils’ practical skills and techniques as they apply these to designing and making prototypes and products. Pupils develop their communication skills through DT, when they are sharing ideas and explaining their thinking. DT teaches pupils about the seasonality of ingredients and how they are grown, caught or reared. It teaches pupils how to participate successfully in an increasingly technological world, as well as developing pupils’ understanding of key developments in history, through researching important individuals and their inventions.
Implementation
- Design Technology is taught as part of our thematic Learning Means the World units, both through Skills Development Tasks and through design projects.
- It is taught through a combination of subject knowledge, skill building and design and make projects.
- Food technology is taught through thematic units and our 3D PSHE programme.
- Learning takes place both inside and outside the classroom.
Impact
As a result of our Design Technology teaching at Trinity CE Primary School you will see:
- Engaged children, who are all supported and challenged.
- Confident children who can share their design ideas and the links between their work and the outside world.
- Lessons that include a variety of materials and equipment for making different products.
- Knowledge and skills that are developed and embedded as the children move up through the school.
